Fiat Chrysler will bring CarPlay and Android auto to its next-generation UConnect infotainment systems this year, the company announced today at CES. It joins Ford, which made a similar announcement yesterday, and a host of other car companies which have started to support the car integration platforms for iOS and Android over the last year or so.

We're a little light on details, but Chrysler says the CarPlay and Android Auto integration will come in its fourth-generation 8.4-inch UConnect systems, as well as "select others" within the company's global portfolio, alongside a capacitive touchscreen, performance improvements, and higher resolution screens.

Like it does in other automobiles, CarPlay will hook the iPhone into the infotainment screen in the car's central console, providing a simplified iOS interface that provides just the data the driver needs without too much distraction. Android Auto works similarly, but for Android smartphones.

Fiat Chrysler's UConnect system is one of the better vehicle infotainment systems on the market, so the arrival of CarPlay and Android Auto isn't as big an advancement as it is on some other vehicles with less user-friendly solutions. Still, it's a nice addition. Expect details on the fourth-generation UConnect system later this year.
