During a press junket for The Accountant, a very weird-looking upcoming movie about an accountant who does murders, Ben Affleck announced the title for his upcoming Batman film. It's The Batman!
He also said the title may change but he's "working on the script" and "the script is going really well." Affleck will direct and star in The Batman, which should probably give DC fans a tiny glimmer of hope. His previous directorial efforts (The Town, Gone Baby Gone, Argo) have been critical and popular successes and his Hollywood A-List status might give him a little more wiggle room when it comes to the studio pressures that have notoriously mutated heavily anticipated superhero films in the past.
Affleck starred as Batman / Bruce Wayne in Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, a rare train wreck of a movie in which everything is on fire, it's raining for the entire 151-minute runtime, and the central conflict is resolved due to the coincidence of two moms having the same name.
Affleck tweeted footage of the film's main villain, Deathstroke (played by True Blood's Joe Manganiello) in August, but there is no release date for The Batman as of yet.
