Netflix seems to be making good on the promise to provide some justice for Barb. In this Stranger Things promotional video, an ‘80s-era newscaster finally acknowledges the fan favorite’s mysterious disappearance, something the series never made much effort to do. (She also compliments Barb’s "fantastic" glasses, which is a nice touch.) And then, of course, there is mention made of Eleven’s love of Eggo waffles.
Fan love for Barb after Stranger Things premiered quickly took on a life of its own, forcing the Duffer Brothers to consider how the character was treated on the show. Even though she, just like Will Byers, got swept into the Upside Down by the Demogorgon, she died alone and with much of the town ignoring her passing. It became a focal point for how the show failed some of its female characters. Even though the second season is months away, Netflix is off to a good start when it comes to making things right.
