HBO’s Westworld has a real chance to become the next Game of Thrones. It’s got high production values, a rich, twisty plot, and plenty of human depravity going for it. Of course, it’s just getting started, so it still needs to prove it can build and retain its audience. So to make sure everyone has the chance to watch, HBO has made the first episode of the series available free for non-subscribers.
Based loosely on the 1973 movie of the same name, Westworld expands on the original concept by delving into the inner lives of the "Hosts," or the robots that populate the futuristic West World park. There, they exist to satisfy the whims of their human "Guests" — even if that involves their deaths.
HBO is pushing its new run of shows hard for online audiences. In addition to Westworld, the first episode of Issa Rae’s new series Insecure was released online last month ahead of its debut on Sunday. Check out Westworld’s first episode here.
