The Syfy Channel dropped a new trailer for the next season of The Expanse, as well as a new release date for when we get to catch up with the crew of the spaceship Rocinante. The footage is a solid reminder that you really should be watching this show.

Last season dropped viewers two centuries into the future in a colonized solar system. A detective named Joe Miller and a ship’s captain, James Holden found themselves on opposite ends of a conspiracy, one that ended up with a horrifying experiment on the asteroid colony of Eros. This new trailer spells out an ominous second season: the entire solar system is now at the edge of war, with a new weapon that could potentially threaten everyone.

The successor to 'Battlestar Galactica'

Based on the novels by James S.A. Corey, the show is a dark and complicated drama that is arguably the successor to Battlestar Galactica. We caught a glimpse of the upcoming season at New York Comic Con earlier this summer, where we learned more about some of the new characters joining the series, and how the creators plan to raise the stakes for the next round of episodes.

If you haven't checked the show out yet, it just hit Netflix (for international users), and it will be streaming on Amazon Prime on December 14th.

The Expanse will return to Syfy on February 8th, 2017.
