Samantha Bee

Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, The Daily Show alum’s acclaimed news comedy series on TBS, has been renewed through 2017. Variety reports that the weekly show, which regularly skewers politics and current events with a feminist bent, was picked up for a second season thanks to Bee’s unique voice, and she’s sure to use that to her advantage in the year ahead.

“Of course we’re picking up the show.”

“Of course we’re picking up the show,” Thom Hinkle, TBS’ senior vice president of original programming, said in a prepared statement. “In less than a year, Sam has become one of the most talked-about personalities in all of television and ‘Full Frontal’s’ audience continues to grow.”

Bee herself made the announcement on her YouTube channel after reading a series of milquetoast tweets that demanded that she go back to Canada. Slim chance of that happening at this point:

Needless to say, getting picked up for a second season is a big win for Bee and her team. The new series debuted in February, and immediately faced an uphill battle in an already crowded and predominantly male late-night field. But the comedian, armed with the most diverse writing staff in the genre, distinguished herself from the likes of The Tonight Show and Trevor Noah’s The Daily Show by drilling into issues with research and her extremely biting style. That prompted TBS to extend the show through the end of this year. The network says that the show currently reaches 3.3 million viewers across a variety of platforms.

It will be interesting to see how Bee takes on the Trump administration

It will be interesting to see what Bee does to take on the incoming Trump administration. Given her takes throughout the election, fans can expect her to be as bruising and hilarious as ever.

“I am only sorry that this renewal leaves me unavailable for a cabinet position in the new administration,” Bee said in the statement. “I will, however, be available to host the White House Correspondents Dinner, seeing as I already bought the dress.”
