It’s November which means we’re firmly into reviews season now that all the major product announcements have been made ahead of the holiday season.
Thursday will see the release of Google’s Daydream View VR headset. The $79 Daydream View announced in October will only support the Google Pixel and Pixel XL at launch, but it’ll work with any future phones built upon Google’s Daydream VR platform. The View also ships with a custom wireless controller that hopes to become "the mouse of VR," as Google's Andrew Nartker put it. Is the Daydream VR better than the Samsung Galaxy Gear VR headset? Watch for our review to find out.
Thursday also marks the retail availability of the Playstation 4 Pro. The $399 PS4 Pro announced in September features 4K and HDR output thanks to some higher-specced guts. Both Netflix and YouTube committed to developing HDR streaming apps for the PS4 Pro as well. Mark Cerny, chief architect of the PS4, said the PS4 Pro is intended "to take the PS4 experience to extraordinary new levels." Does it? We’ll let you know in our forthcoming review.
Microsoft’s updated Surface Book also goes on sale Thursday with refreshed internals that improve graphics performance and battery life. We’ll soon see if it’s worth the price: $2,399 (256GB), $2,799 (512GB), and $3,299 (1TB).
We’ve also got another installment of The Walking Dead Redemption Club this week, and we’ll tell you why bad movies are the best movies to watch on airplanes. But that’s just a taste of what promises to be a big week ahead.
