Have you ever thought games like Diablo and Torchlight would be better if only they had dinosaurs? Well, Dauntless might just be for you.
The upcoming action role-playing game takes place in a fantasy realm threatened by massive, dinosaur-like beasts called behemoths, and puts you in the role of a behemoth hunter known as a slayer. You can take the beasts either on your own or cooperatively with groups of up to four players online. Like most other action RPGs, Dauntless will have a focus on gear, letting you upgrade your character by crafting new weapons and armor.
We don’t have much else in the way of details, but Dauntless will be the first release from Phoenix Labs, a new studio formed by veterans from places like Blizzard and BioWare. The studio is led by former League of Legends senior designer Jesse Houston. “We’ve taken inspiration from games like Dark Souls, Monster Hunter, and World of Warcraft to create a new, gripping gaming experience,” Houston says of the game.
Dauntless is expected to launch on PC sometime next year. It’ll be free-to-play, and Phoenix says that it has plans to keep the game updated “for years to come.”
