Despite impressive sales, the NES Classic remains one of the season’s most elusive gaming gifts. You need a mix of planning, patience, and luck to get your hands on one. Shoppers have the chance to try again on December 20th, when Best Buy stores will have a limited, undisclosed amount for those who get in line fast enough.

BGR first spotted the news; when The Verge called a local Best Buy to confirm, the store’s automated answering system included information about the sale before its regular option menu.

"The NES classic edition will not be available on BestBuy.com,” the recording says. “On December 20th, Best Buy will have limited quantities of the console available at Best Buy locations. NES Classic Edition will be sold on a first-come, first serve basis. Just like on Black Friday, our stores will have a ticketing process for customers waiting in line. We will only pass out as many tickets as we have consoles, and quantities will not be released over the phone.”

The NES Classic sells for $59.99 and functions as a simplified version of the original console. Amazon Prime Now, the site’s local delivery service, announced yesterday that it would sell the system in select cities. Predictably, these too were gone in a flash.
