Kevin Smith has landed his second late-night AMC gig co-hosting a new show titled Geeking Out. The show will star Smith and actor Greg Grunberg, of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Heroes, in a 30-minute talk show format featuring celebrity interviews and out-of-the-studio segments. The show will focus on pop culture through the lens of fanboys, in the words of AMC. The premiere date is set for this July with an episode covering Comic-Con International in San Diego, with eight additional episodes to follow.
Smith has graced late-night AMC programming for the last four years with The Comic Book Men, the reality TV show set at Smith's comic book shop in Red Bank, New Jersey now in its fifth season. "I can’t wait to lose fluids on the airwaves of my favorite channel over the genre gems we’re gonna get insider access to due to gregarious Greg’s bonafides!" Smith said in a statement. Grunberg was equally strange in his marketing plug, saying, "I love how Kevin Smith smells and we fit together like two hibernating fan-bears. Thanks to AMC and the Weinsteins, the rest of the world is going to get to see what’s inside our dark, dank geek cave."
"I love how Kevin Smith smells."
“Kevin and Greg are both true fans of this content, and share a deep passion for talking about it, and engaging other fans about it. But it is their natural chemistry as hosts that really brings this idea together,” said Joel Stillerman, AMC and SundanceTV's president of original programming and development. AMC now has a growing number of non-fiction shows in its lineup, including the post-show wrap-up program The Talking Dead, which airs after The Walking Dead on Sundays, and a new motorcycle travel series featuring The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus premiering some time this year.
