Lupe Fiasco first became widely known with his appearance on Kanye West's "Touch The Sky" and has since turned in a series of thoughtful, commentary-laced hip-hop albums, with 2015's Tetsuo & Youth generally considered an impressive return to form.
Daigo "The Beast" Umehara came to widespread attention at Evo 2004 by pulling off the most famous moment in competitive fighting game history — an unbelievable 15-hit parry and subsequent combo to take out Justin Wong's Chun-Li in a Street Fighter III: Third Strike match — and has since become one of the most recognizable Street Fighter players in the world.
Tonight, the pair face off.
The match-up is taking place at an event in San Francisco to celebrate this week's launch of Street Fighter V, and the whole thing is streaming live on Twitch. Undercard events are kicking off around now, with Lupe and Daigo's exhibition set to start at 10.45PM ET.
My money's on Daigo, but that's a given. Maybe if he wins he should challenge Lupe to a rap battle. Only seems fair.
Update, 11.05PM ET: In an incredibly entertaining and quite possibly staged series of bouts, Lupe showed off some unexpected skills to somehow triumph over Daigo 3-2.
