We'll know more about Sony's PlayStation VR on March 15th

Sony will soon reveal more about PlayStation VR, its upcoming virtual reality headset for the PlayStation 4, after months without saying much about the platform. The company is holding a PSVR-focused event on March 15th at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco; the showcase will comprise a presentation and some hands-on demonstrations.

PlayStation VR was first announced at GDC two years ago under the codename Project Morpheus. Sony is yet to issue a price or release date for the final version of PlayStation VR beyond an expected launch in the first half of 2016; PlayStation chief Andrew House has reportedly said that the headset will be "priced as a new gaming platform."

With the PlayStation 4 itself launching at $399 in 2014, that should give Sony some leeway to establish PSVR as the cheapest major VR platform — the Oculus Rift costs $599 and Valve's HTC Vive will go on sale for $799, with both requiring powerful PCs. Whatever Sony has to announce, we'll be there next month to bring you the news direct from GDC.
