Kesha thanked her fans and wrote about the larger societal implications of her contract dispute with former producer Dr. Luke (aka Lukasz Gottwald) in a note on Facebook this afternoon. The post is arriving in the wake of the rejection of a pivotal motion in Kesha's case, one that would've allowed her to record new music without the involvement of Dr. Luke or his label's parent company Sony Music Entertainment. (Kesha alleges that Dr. Luke has abused her, raped her, and taken financial advantage of her over the course of their working relationship, and she's been fighting for liberation from her contracts with the producer since 2014.) Fans and fellow artists around the world — everyone from Taylor Swift and Adele to Jack Antonoff and Zedd — have rallied around Kesha in the days since the court's decision using the hashtag #FreeKesha.

"All I ever wanted was to make music without being afraid, scared, or abused," wrote Kesha. "This case has never been about a renegotiation of my record contract — it was never about getting a bigger or a better deal. This is about being free from my abuser. I would be willing to work with Sony if they do the right thing and break all ties that bind me to my abuser." She also wrote about the impact the case is having on young women and other victims of abuse. "I don't want ... any person to be afraid that they'll be punished if they speak out about being abused ... If you have been abused, please don't be afraid to speak out. There are places that will make you feel safe. There are people who will help you. I for one, will stand beside you and behind you."

Kesha's decision to write about the case and surrounding campaign on Facebook (and on Instagram yesterday) represents a new phase in the case's public life, one where it's been opened up to informal public adjudication. The outpouring of public support on Kesha's behalf has done more than earn a thank-you from the pop star: it prompted a public denial from Dr. Luke, who took to Twitter to defend his innocence on Monday. "This is an ongoing legal case so I won't be responding / talking much about this," wrote Dr. Luke. "This should be tried in a court of law."
