Roc Nation's newest member is DJ Khaled. Khaled just signed a management-only deal with Jay Z's company, which lands him in a roster that includes the likes of Big Sean, DJ Mustard, Kanye West, and Rihanna. According to an announcement from Roc Nation, Jay Z himself will be Khaled's manager.
Roc Nation is smart, very smart
Khaled may not be as successful as some of his Roc Nation counterparts (his most recent album, I Changed A Lot, peaked at No. 12 on the Billboard 200), but 2015 was a huge year for the Miami producer. That's mostly due to Khaled's frequent use of Snapchat, where he broadcasts his daily life to some 6 million followers with the kind of overwhelming positivity that often veers into meme territory. Few people have Khaled's ability to turn nearly every thought into a catchphrase — a talent he has leveraged into viral fame. He even appeared on an incredulous ABC Nightline segment earlier this month to explain how he got the nickname "King of Snapchat."
All this means Khaled is having something of a moment right now, and his Snapchat success is spilling over into his music career. Earlier this month, Khaled signed a deal with Apple Music that gave him a weekly radio show and a biweekly TV series. He also signed to United Talent Agency last month.
Khaled's own imprint, We The Best, existed under Birdman's Cash Money until Khaled split ways with the label in 2015. Changed A Lot was distributed by Sony.
