Google is making a small, but meaningful name change: it's updating the Chromecast app to be called the Google Cast app.
The new name better reflects what the app is used for
The announcement comes alongside the announcement of Vizio TVs and speakers with Google Cast built in. Basically, it's gotten to the point where so many products have Casting built in that aren't the Chromecast, that it no longer makes sense to have "Chrome" in the app's name. Google Cast doesn't exactly sound as smooth as Chromecast, but it's a clearer title that better indicates what the app is about: helping anyone with a Google Cast-enabled product find stuff to watch or listen to.
The app doesn't appear to have been updated yet in either Apple's App Store or Google's Play Store, but it sounds like the change will be coming sometime this week. Other than the new name, no other updates are expected.
