Google and Acer have teamed up to release the $799 Chromebase for meetings, an "all-in-one standalone secure video conferencing device" designed for small areas like desktops or office phone booths. Google has other Chromebase devices on the market (made by both LG and Acer), but this is the first specifically tricked out for video conferences.

The Chromebase for meetings includes a 24-inch, 1080p touchscreen (Acer claims it's the largest on any Chrome OS device), HD conferencing camera, four microphones, and two stereo speakers. It's Google's second play in the video conferencing market, after releasing the Chromebox for meetings with Acer in 2014. The Chromebox for meetings, which does not come with a screen, is still being marketed as a video conferencing solution for larger meeting spaces, while the new Chromebase is designed to be used as a personal terminal for up to two people to join a video conference.

The Chromebase connects to Google Hangout meetings, which can support up to 25 participants. Google says the Chromebase is available in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, and Australia, and is expected to be coming to other markets soon.
