Linux / Open Source

It's not Open Source until the code is released.

Don't get me wrong, I applaud Facebook's camera design and their plans to Open Source them - but I'm also tired of the Open Source label being thrown around without actually releasing the code. There are numerous examples of companies who promised to Open Source or Open Standard their stuff and then never followed through.

Announcing to Open Source something doesn't make it Open Source. Releasing the code does.

I just wish that that writers would refuse to put the label in their headlines until it's actually earned.

As of now, Facebook's camera isn't Open Source.
