Hearthstone's next major expansion is launching next week

The third big expansion in Blizzard's addictive card game is just a week away. Today the company announced that "Whispers of the Old Gods" will be available for Hearthstone via in-game purchase starting on Tuesday, April 26th.

"Whispers of Gods" is said to have a decidedly darker feel than past Hearthstone expansions, with at least some of the 134 new cards reportedly being "corrupted" versions of classic minions. Perhaps more importantly, the new expansion will introduce Standard and Wild formats, each with their own separate ranked and casual play. Similar to how longstanding card game Magic: The Gathering divides its tournament play, Wild format allows for a deck to have any card, while Standard only allows basic cards plus cards introduced in the last two calendar years — and nothing in between.

As it is currently, individual packs can be bought with real money or in-game currency. If you're a dedicated enough player — as many are — you can also pre-purchase 50-card packs for a discounted price of $49.99.
