This tiny adapter lets you use wireless controllers with an NES

New, 2 comments

Analogue, the company behind perhaps the most gorgeous NES ever made, is releasing a new adapter so you can use a wireless controller with your classic Nintendo hardware. Called the Retro Receiver, the $19.99 receiver simply plugs into the controller port on an NES, letting you replace the standard, tethered gamepad with something wireless.

The device is compatible with any console that has an NES-style port — including both the classic Nintendo hardware and Analogue's own versions, even the ones made of gold — and it also works with a wide range of controllers. That includes those from the PS3 and PS4, as well as the Wii remote and Wii U Pro Controller. The device was created in partnership with 8Bitdo, which just so happens to also make wireless controllers based on classic designs from the NES, SNES, Famicom, and more. Naturally, all 8Bitdo controllers are compatible with the Retro Receiver as well.

The Retro Receiver is available starting today.
