The cheapest Nintendo handheld keeps getting cheaper. Today Nintendo announced that, starting on May 20th, the 2DS will be just $79.99. The handheld originally launched at a $129.99 price point, before being cut down to $99.99 last summer. Nintendo also says that it will be bundling some of the new, cheaper 2DS units with a digital version of Mario Kart 7 preinstalled. While the 2DS can play the same games as the 3DS, it's lacking a few of the handheld's features; most notably the glasses-free 3D graphics and the iconic hinged design. The news comes at a relatively quiet time for 3DS releases, as Nintendo shifts its focus to mobile gaming and its next piece of hardware, the mysterious NX console. The next big release for the handheld is Kirby: Planet Robobot, which launches on June 10th, while the next entries in the Pokemon series are coming in November.
