Helen Mirren revealed she's working on Fast 8 alongside Vin Diesel, Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, and Charlize Theron, a casting announcement that suggests Hollywood is taking cues from my wildest dreams. Mirren talked about her involvement in a new interview with Elle, and she also confirmed she's going to take the wheel of one of the franchise's legendary vehicles. "I'm about to do Fast and Furious 8," said Mirren. "I've always rather loved driving. I said, 'I'll be in it, but only if I'm allowed to drive if I do drive in it...' I love big, fun movies — as long as they're well made and they've got good scripts. That's the most important thing."
This isn't just a quick paycheck for Mirren, who's been open about her desire to wriggle into the Fast universe in the past and has driven on Top Gear. "My great ambition is to be in a Fast and Furious movie," said Mirren to Yahoo Movies last year. "I so want to be a mad driver in a Fast and Furious movie. My claim to fame is I always do my own driving... I keep putting it out there, and they never ask me. I'll be in Fast and Furious 8." (I think that was more of a statement of purpose than a confirmation everyone missed.) The nature of her role isn't yet clear, but I'm hoping she's going to play one of Theron's villainous associates. Can you imagine Theron, Mirren, and Tormund Giantsbane playing an evil trio? I'd be rooting for the bad guys.
Fast 8's zooming into theaters on April 14th, 2017.
