Presumptive Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton unveiled a new set of endorsements from business leaders today, including a number of major tech leaders. Google co-founder Eric Schmidt, Netflix founder Reed Hastings, and Tumblr founder David Karp all appear on the list endorsing Clinton, as does Facebook's Sheryl Sandberg. The CEO of Dropbox and two co-founders of Airbnb also appear on the list, along with prominent investors like Greylock’s Reid Hoffman, Kleiner Perkins’ John Doerr and Brook Byers, and IAC chairman Barry Diller.
Aside from Schmidt and Sandberg, larger companies like Apple, Google, and Facebook are largely absent from the list. Still, many have made less explicit political gestures as the 2016 election has heated up. Tim Cook hosted a fundraiser for Republican house speaker Paul Ryan earlier this week, after the company publicly declined to donate to the party’s convention. In March, CEOs from Apple, Google, and Tesla participated in a secret meeting with Republican leaders as part of the American Enterprise Institute’s World Forum.
