Fall Out Boy redid the Ghostbusters theme song, boy oh boy

Feminism's greatest ally, Fall Out Boy, has released a rerecording of the Ghostbusters theme song specifically designed to make you realize what could actually retroactively ruin a 30-year-old movie. Are you happy?

This is what America deserves, if I'm honest.

Do you remember Fall Out Boy? Maybe you had the 2007 version of Dance Dance Revolution, which features the song "Dance, Dance"? Maybe you were once a fan of Ashlee Simpson and her high-profile tabloid marriage to Pete Wentz? Maybe you've seen this befuddling music video in which Joey Fatone throws Fall Out Boy action figures into a trash can but they escape and start hip-thrusting at Barbie dolls?

remember fall out boy? i'm sorry

Anyway, if you don't remember Fall Out Boy, listen to the new Ghostbusters theme song. They sort of sing it, in between long stretches of breathing heavily into your ear — like Crispin Glover in the classic 2000 film Charlie's Angels! Fall Out Boy is very loyal to the aesthetic of the time period it has travelled here from. Beneath their vocals chugs an earnest little backing track reminiscent of the song Alexis Vega performs in the credits scene of the 2002 film Spy Kids 2: The Island of Lost Dreams. Fun! And more early ‘00s loyalty!

Missy Elliott also contributes a verse to the song, unfortunately for her. "You got me scared, hiding neath my bed," she says. Yes, me too. I dare you to listen to "Ghostbusters" by Fall Out Boy ft. Missy Elliott, but if you play it in front of your teen's friends I'll call the police on you.

It's possible that I'm being unfair, as several YouTube commenters have gone out of their way to say that this cover has actually convinced them to go see the Ghostbusters remake. Whatever floats your boat, but I can't believe it was an early aughts pop-punk band and not the ineffable Leslie Jones.
