The shockingly green Mercedes AMG GT R is a track monster

What has 577 horsepower, 516 pound-feet of torque, and is bright green? The Mercedes AMG GT R, of course. It's at the top of Mercedes' street-legal sports car range and, fresh off its unveiling on Friday, the car has arrived at the Goodwood Festival of Speed to take on the famous hill climb.

It's the harder, better, faster, stronger version of the Mercedes-Benz's excellent AMG GT that was released a few years ago. It'll get from 0-60 mph in 3.5 seconds, up to a top speed of 198 mph. We didn't get a chance to ride in the AMG GT R (not to be confused with the similarly-named Nissan), but we saw — and heard — it scream up the hill earlier today.

And that green color? Mercedes calls it "AMG green hell magno," an homage to the Nurburgring Nordschleife. It's certainly not subtle, and just screams "LOOK AT ME" in a way that is decidedly un-German. Brilliant.

We managed to snag a few shots of the Mercedes AMG GT R in the Goodwood Supercar Paddock after it took a run up a mud-caked hillclimb, so take a look and imagine the sound of fury from a dragon that just found out the AMG GT S it bought a few months ago already has a bigger brother. That's basically what it sounds like.
