Bill Hader's hitman comedy series is coming to HBO

Earlier this year we found out that HBO had ordered a pilot for a potential new series starring Bill Hader, and it looks like the network was happy with the results: Variety reports that it's moving forward with the show's first season. Barry stars Hader as a former soldier who now works in the Midwest as a second-tier hitman, but finds new meaning in his life when he goes to Los Angeles and finds a group of aspiring would-be assassins in the city's theater scene. (It sounds a little like Grosse Pointe Blank meets The Groundlings, so consider me both mystified and intrigued.)

Hader will be executive producing and writing the series alongside Alec Berg, a Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm veteran who's also been a major creative force in bringing Mike Judge's Silicon Valley to life. Hader also directed the pilot for Barry, but it's not clear if he'll be doing the same for the rest of the half-hour series. Henry Winkler, Sarah Goldberg, and Stephen Root are among the other actors that will be joining Hader in front of the camera when Barry starts shooting next year.
