Milton’s Paradise Lost is reborn as a 16-bit music video

When London electronic music production duo Delta Heavy released their debut album Paradise Lost earlier this year, they were able to put together a fun music video: an animated 16-bit adaptation of John Milton’s 1667 poem.

This video follows the fallen angel Satan as he returned to Heaven to apologize to God. He’s struck down, and falls to Earth. The animation makes this look like a long-lost NES game from the 1980s, with a fantastic soundtrack.

Najeeb Tarazi directed the music video. The animator — who has worked on films such as Monsters University and Toy Story 3 — noted that the song was about "letting your guard down in love," which is certainly echoed in the lyrics.

The end result is a beautiful short video that feels nostalgic and thoughtful at the same time.
