Beyoncé has published an impassioned plea on her website, asking her fans to contact legislators and representatives and express their anguish about police brutality. She makes reference to Alton Sterling and Philando Castile, two black men who have been shot and killed by police in the last two days. She also quotes one of the refrains of the Black Lives Matter movement: "stop killing us."

In the letter, Beyoncé writes "we're going to stand up as a community and fight against anyone who believes that murder or any violent action by those who are sworn to protect us should consistently go unpunished," and goes on to point out that the burden of this fight should not fall exclusively on one community but on everyone. "This is a human fight. No matter your race, gender, or sexual orientation."

"This is a human fight."

The letter is titled "Freedom," a reference to her song featuring Kendrick Lamar, the video for which starred family members of Michael Brown and Tamir Rice, who were killed by police officers, and Trayvon Martin, who was killed by a neighborhood watch patrolman. Beyoncé has become increasingly active in the Black Lives Matter movement in the last year, referencing it in the video for "Formation," and performing a Black Panther tribute at the Super Bowl. Most recently, she and Lamar gave a stirring performance of "Freedom" at the BET Awards.

The letter provides links to contact sites for congresspeople, as well as the Louisiana and Minnesota state legislatures (the states in which the most recent killings took place), and ends on an optimistic note: "your voice will be heard."

Correction July 8th, 6:10PM ET: Trayvon Martin was killed by a neighborhood watch patrolman, not a police officer as initially stated.
