Pikmin is coming to 3DS, though not as you’d expect. The genre-bending console series look to be a more traditional side-scrolling adventure, judging from the limited footage shown during today’s Nintendo Direct stream. As the familiar hero Captain Olimar, the player will press through two-dimensional levels, solving environmental puzzles and attacking enemies with a band of tiny pikmin creatures.
The game, tentatively titled Pikmin, is scheduled for a vague 2017 release. It is one of the few entirely new Nintendo games announced for the handheld console.
