After a lot of rumor and speculation, Mad Max: Fury Road is finally going to be available in the US in black and white. According to ComingSoon.net, this version of the film — acclaimed by director George Miller — will be available as part of the Mad Max High Octane Collection in both Blu-ray ($79.99) and DVD ($54.97). It'll be out December 6th (it's already hit other markets), bundled in with the other three films in the franchise and the color version of Fury Road. For those who don't need to buy the earlier films, this "Black and Chrome Edition" will also be part of a $29.98 Blu-ray double-disc package alongside the original theatrical cut.
Seeing Fury Road in black and white isn't just a novelty either; Miller has talked about this version of the film since the time of its release, even going so far as to describe it as the "best version." In January this year, Miller said: "I asked Eric Whipp, the colorist, 'Can I see some scenes in black and white with quite a bit of contrast?' They looked great. So I said to the guys at Warners, "Can we put a black-and-white version on the DVD?" There wasn't enough room. [It'll end up] on another version with commentary and other features." And here we are — all shiny and black and white and chrome!
