True Blood and Magic Mike star Joe Manganiello has been cast to play the main supervillain Deathstroke in Warner Bros.’ upcoming solo Batman movie. According to The Wall Street Journal, DC Films head Geoff Johns confirmed the casting during an interview about his role in DC’s movie universe, though he wouldn’t say whether or not the character would appear in next year’s Justice League.

Ben Affleck, who’s helming the film, tweeted footage early last week showing Deathstroke, also known as Slade Wilson, in action. Manganiello seems fit for the part; the actor brought an imposing physicality to his role on True Blood, where he played werewolf pack leader Alcide Herveaux, and in the Magic Mike films, where he played (unsurprisingly) a beefy male dancer. (The facial hair doesn't hurt, either.) It’ll certainly be interesting to see what he brings to the part. First, though, we’ll need a proper release date for the film.
