Gorillaz have been promising a return to form for nearly a year, but with Donald Trump about to claim the White House, the group saw fit to finally release new music. Titled “Hallelujah Money,” the track, released through UPROXX, takes aim at the president-elect’s love of money and power, which both come at the expense of people.
The track and video both feature London poet and musician Benjamin Clementine, whose artistry has earned him comparisons to Nina Simone and Leonard Cohen. The video itself starts with a long, golden hallway reminiscent of Trump Tower before we watch Clementine sing directly into the camera, images of both opulence and the Klan playing in the background.

"In these dark times, we all need someone to look up to,” Gorillaz bassist Murdoc Niccals told Noisey. “Me. That's why I'm giving you this new Gorillaz song, a lightning bolt of truth in a black night. You're welcome. Now piss on! The new album's not gonna write itself."
“Hallelujah Money” is the first single from the virtual band since the release of their last album, The Fall. Of course, it’s not at all clear when their next album will see release, but the group insists it’ll be out later this year.
