Raz is making his virtual reality debut very soon: today developer Double Fine announced that Psychonauts in the Rhombus of Ruin will debut on PlayStation VR on February 21st.
The VR game was originally announced in 2015, and features a story that directly follows the events cult classic game Psychonauts, which first released on PS2 in 2005. Rhombus of Ruin will once again star budding psychic Raz as he attempts to join the titular group of psychic secret agents.
The original game set itself apart with unique worlds derived from the unconscious minds of characters, and the VR spinoff will continue this while shifting the perspective to first person. "Our main thing is making crazy worlds and dropping the player into unique environments, and I think VR does that really effortlessly," Double Fine founder and Psychonauts writer Tim Schafer told The Verge in 2015, just after the game was announced.
In addition to the new PSVR game, the world of Psychonauts will also be expanding with a direct sequel that’s slated to launch sometime in 2018. Later this year, meanwhile, the studio will be releasing a remastered version of classic 1995 graphic adventure Full Throttle.
