More than 10 years after a new episode aired on TV, Invader Zim, Nickelodeon’s creepy yet lovable series about a wannabe alien menace, is ready for a comeback. Entertainment Weekly reports that a 90-minute film has gotten the green light from the network, and it will feature the core voice cast in their return to the cult hit.

The cult hit returns

The original series, which ran for two seasons between 2001 and 2002, starred Zim, a bumbling alien who is constantly concocting schemes to take over the world so he can impress his leaders. Though the series earned acclaim and an Emmy, it was canceled in 2002, with the last of the unaired episodes playing on the Nicktoons cable network in 2006. This movie will likely pick up where the series left off, letting Zim jumpstart one more plan to conquer Earth.

Invader Zim is now the third Nickelodeon series to get a second chance on television. Last year, the network announced that both a Hey Arnold! movie and a Rocko’s Modern Life special were on the way. Meanwhile, a NickToons feature film, starring characters from classic ‘90s Nickelodeon cartoons like Rugrats and Ren & Stimpy is currently in the works at Paramount.
