Del Rey Books announced a new anthology, Star Wars: From a Certain Point of View, featuring an all-star lineup of authors. The best part? Proceeds from the book will go to First Book, a charity that provides books to children in low income families.

What stands out about From a Certain Point of View is the number of big names included in the table of contents: newcomers to the Star Wars universe, such as Meg Cabot (Princess Diaries), Adam Christopher (Empire State), Polygon’s Griffin McElroy, Ken Liu (Grace of Kings), Nnedi Okorafor (Binti), Daniel José Older (Half-Resurrection Blues), and veteran franchise authors, such as Alexander Freed (Rogue One novelization / Battlefront: Twilight Company), Paul Kemp (Crosscurrent / Riptide), John Jackson Miller (New Dawn / Kenobi), and Christie Golden (Inferno Squad / Dark Disciple).

In all, the anthology will include 40 stories to tie in with the 40th anniversary of A New Hope. Each story will be about one of the random background characters throughout the film, such as the X-Wing pilots, the Sand Troopers on Tatooine, and more. This isn’t the first time we’ve seen anthologies that delve into the minutia of the Star Wars universe: the Tales anthology series edited by Kevin J. Anderson went into the background of scenes like Mos Eisley Cantina and Jabba’s Palace, fleshing out minor background characters, and providing a wealth of cool details about those characters. Now that the expanded universe has been rendered non-canon, there’s space in the new storyline to begin investigating those characters — and hopefully some new ones — all over again.

The anthology will also do quite a bit of good here on Earth: the authors are all donating their pay to First Book, a charity that provides “new books, learning materials, and other essentials to children in need.” At the same time, Penguin Random House (Del Rey’s parent company) will donate $100,000, while Disney and Lucasfilm will donate 100,000 children’s books to the charity.

Star Wars: From a Certain Point of View is due out on October 3rd, 2017.
