Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, the Harry Potter sequel / play, has finally set an opening month on Broadway. Variety reports that the show, which debuted in London’s West End last year and was a box office and critical hit, will open in New York in late April 2018.

It was announced last December that Cursed Child would be coming to the newly renovated Lyric Theatre with a “distinctive new aesthetic” to set it apart from the London production. No casting decisions had been made at the time, but now that a date has been announced that news will likely be coming soon. The play will undoubtedly be a hot (and expensive) ticket, but it will have some competition for the family-friendly showgoer in its new home — the long-delayed musical adaptation of Disney’s Frozen is also set to open next spring.

The Cursed Child script was published in hardcover last summer, with story by J.K. Rowling, and John Tiffany (the play’s director, best known for the Tony-winning musical Once). Prolific TV writer Jack Thorne is credited as the primary script writer. Tiffany will stay on as the play’s director when it makes the move to Broadway, and the London production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is set to close in February 2018.
