Google may have moved more than 1 million units of its Pixel smartphone, if you believe the Play Store download counter. According to Ars Technica, the Pixel Launcher, which is exclusively available for Google’s smartphone, crossed the 1 million install mark in the Play Store, in theory signifying that there are a million Pixel phones floating around.
Now, the Google Play Store download counter doesn’t give out exact numbers. Instead it displays a pretty wide range of installs like 500,000 to 1 million and 1 million to 5 million. I’d still take the milestone with a grain of salt, given the number of test / display / returned units that may be floating around, as well as the fact that third-party counters still have the Pixel Launcher under 1 million installs.
But regardless of the discrepancies, Google is probably hovering around the 1-million-units-sold mark — if it hasn’t crossed it already. We’ve reached out to Google for comment.
