Last fall, AMC announced that it renewed Halt and Catch Fire for a fourth and final season. This week, the network revealed that the show will return on August 19th with two back-to-back episodes, beginning at 9PM ET.
Each of Halt and Catch Fire’s seasons have dramatized some of the biggest aspects of the modern online environment, from the rise of the PC to online gaming. Last season focused on Cameron and Donna’s efforts to shift their company from the world of online gaming to online commerce. Along the way, they ran into numerous roadblocks and interpersonal problems, which ultimately results in Donna’s firing. “Halt and Catch Fire has always been about how people who make things put themselves into the things they create,” executive producers and showrunners Christopher C. Rogers and Christopher Cantwell said in a statement.
This sets up for even more drama this year. According to AMC, the focus for this season will be all about Mutiny and its new competitors finding a way to “navigate the burgeoning Internet.” So it appears that the show will highlight the rise of the search giants that dominate the web, like Google, or Yahoo. We’ll find out how it all goes down when the season 4 begins on August 19th.
