You can get an Oculus Rift with Touch controllers for $399 right now, a major saving of around $200. But Oculus just made an announcement that makes this summer sale look less dramatic — after it ends in around five weeks, the bundle will be newly priced at $499.
The bundle includes the Rift headset, two sensors, the Touch controllers, all necessary cables, and copies of Lucky’s Tale, Medium, Toybox, Quill, Dead and Buried, and Robo Recall.
It’s unusual for a company to announce what amounts to a price cut and a price hike at the same time, but Oculus is clearly focused on lowering the main barrier to entry to its VR platform. The Rift headset and Touch controllers both got $100 price reductions in March, and the company is reportedly working with Xiaomi on a $200 standalone device for release next year.
