Amazon has ordered two seasons of Homecoming, an adaptation of the popular Gimlet podcast, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The podcast, a psychological thriller with a narrative structure borrowed from traditional radio and an A-list voice-acting cast including Oscar Isaac, Catherine Keener, and David Schwimmer, is in the midst of its second season.
The TV series will be directed and executive produced by Mr. Robot creator Sam Esmail, who announced his involvement in the project last December. The creators of the podcast, Eli Horowitz and Micah Bloomberg, are also listed as executive producers and will write the series. This is the second TV series for Gimlet Media, which sold a Zach Braff directed-pilot based on the comedy podcast Start Up to ABC last August and received a series pickup in May.
Still, the pickup is a big move for Gimlet, which has been viewed in recent years as the defining innovator in the podcast industry. Earlier this summer, Audible announced a $5 million fund for emerging playwrights, ostensibly in hopes of creating its own wildly successful audio dramas.
So far, Julia Roberts is the only announced cast member of the show; she’ll play the supervisor at a secret government facility.
