Rocko’s Modern Life is getting a one-hour TV movie next year, and Nickelodeon is at San Diego Comic-Con to give fans their first sneak peek at the new series. In the special’s first trailer for Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling, Rocko, Heffer, and Filburt find themselves in 2017. Things in O-Town have changed a lot since the ‘90s, and the trio find themselves having to deal with how weird, fascinating, and downright terrifying things have gotten over the course of 20 years.
“The 21st century is a very dangerous century.”
Rocko’s Modern Life is beloved for its cheeky (if obvious) satire and the boatloads of innuendo and adult humor creator Joe Murray heaped onto the show. All that is here in this first look, but there’s also a creeping sense of alienation from and even revulsion toward the technological trends of the moment. Sure, the surveillance state really is scary and the 3D movies are stupid, but... are smartphones really all that bad?
Rocko’s Modern Life: Static Cling will air on Nickelodeon in 2018.
