Audio-Technica has revealed both a new wireless Bluetooth over-ear headphone model as well as a series of wireless Bluetooth in-ear headphones. Unlike the brand’s other recent reveal — the upmarket ATH-ADX5000 (which comes with its own suitcase!) — all these newly released models are affordably priced, but still have quality-conscious listeners in mind.
The ATH-AR5BT over-ear model follows the ATH-AR3BT, released earlier this year. Many specs are shared between the two wireless headphones, like a 30 hour battery life and support for Bluetooth aptX, AAC, and SBC codecs. But, there are some upgrades. The new AR5BT has a greater frequency range, from 5 to 40,000 Hz, and a slightly bigger 45mm driver. It also looks to have a visual touch-up with a slightly sleeker design, what appears to be larger ear cups, and additional color options, including a bright-red model.
The new in-ear headphones expand on Audio-Technica’s existing CKR line with three wireless Bluetooth models: the ATH-CKR75BT, ATH-CKR55BT, and ATH-CKR35BT. Driver size is one of the bigger difference between the three, clocking in at 11.8mm, 10.7mm, and 9.8mm respectively, with frequency range topping out at 40,000 Hz, 35,000 Hz, and 24,000 Hz. Also of note, while they all support AAC, only the CKR75BT and CKR55BT support aptX. They all carry a seven-hour battery life, which hovers at around what comparable headphones offer, and is certainly long enough for a commute or most flights.
Audio-Technica’s over-ear ATH-AR5BT will be available in November 2017, priced at €199. The in-ear line will be available in October, with the ATH-CKR75BT priced at €159, the ATH-CKR55BT at €99, and the ATH-CKR35BT at €59.
