The new-look Kratos is coming in just a few short months: today, Sony revealed that the upcoming God of War on PS4 is launching on April 20th. The game is something of a reboot of the long-running action series, shifting the focus from Greek mythology to what looks like a world inspired by Norse folklore.
The new God of War will also represent a new look for protagonist Kratos, previously an incredibly angry man hellbent on revenge. This time around, he’s a father, and balancing his tough-guy persona with the struggles of parenthood should make for an interesting dynamic. “This is a guy who can go up against a giant Atlas and not flinch, but the idea of giving his kid a hug scares the hell out of him because he doesn’t know how to relate,” director Cory Barlog told The Verge back in 2016.
You can get a new glimpse of the revamped God of War in the just-released trailer above. The game is one of the biggest exclusives coming to the PS4 this year, and it’ll be released on what’s turning out to be a rather busy day for video games: April 20th will also see the launch of Nintendo’s new line of DIY cardboard Switch accessories.
