Microsoft is revealing a new Crackdown 3 release date today. The open-world crimefighting game has been delayed multiple times, and was originally supposed to arrive on November 7th, 2017. Microsoft pushed that release date to the second or third quarter of 2018 before revealing earlier this year that Crackdown 3 would appear in February 2019. It’s now set for a February 15th release date.

A lot of that extra time has been spent improving the game’s visuals, and to ensure it’s a better quality game all round. The original Crackdown was an expansive shooter with a mechanic that saw players hunting orbs to progress and upgrade their skills. Crackdown didn’t push players into a rigid set of quests to complete, instead you could complete any mission or activity to progress. Microsoft also says that the original Crackdown will be available to download for free from the Xbox store through November 30th.

New Wrecking Zone multiplayer mode

Alongside the new date announcement, Microsoft revealed a new multiplayer mode for Crackdown 3, dubbed Wrecking Zone. It’s a five-on-five deathmatch mode in a dedicated arena with plenty of destruction occurring.

Crackdown 3 is a highly-anticipated addition to the series, and it’s an important exclusive for Microsoft’s Xbox One consoles. The Xbox One X launched a year ago without any major AAA exclusive games, and Crackdown 3 was supposed to be that title for the new console. Microsoft is now aggressively pushing to create more Xbox exclusive titles, and announced earlier this year that five new studios have joined Microsoft Studios to create more Xbox One exclusive games.
