eBay is announcing a new section called “Under $10” today, which lists millions of products that cost $10 or less, following the footsteps of Amazon. Amazon added its own $10 and Under section to its app and website last month, including products like T-shirts, earrings, hats, and phone cases.
eBay’s section will include similar offerings, including video games, watches, audio players and mini speakers, headphones and earbuds, and fitness accessories. The purchase will truly be under $10, as shipping is entirely covered and bidding is not required.
Both companies are likely competing against budget shopping apps like Wish for market share. Wish, in particular, had a pre-market valuation of $8.5 billion, according to Forbes, making it worth more than Sears, Macy’s, and JC Penney combined. The new eBay section is likely an effort to maintain relevance in the increasingly competitive e-commerce space that is boosted by the proliferation of apps, voice-assisted shopping, and on-demand delivery services.
