Can hitting Back in an article please just take us to the main page?

Nothing drives me more insane than going from a page, let's say, to The Verge, clicking on an article, reading it, then hitting Back in my browser and ending up not on but, or wherever I had been prior.

On mobile, when this happens to me on nearly every Verge article, this means having to click back up on the browser bar and either reselecting The Verge, or if Chrome doesn't feel like putting my most frequent links up, as it occasionally doesn't, starting to type it.

Sometimes, that's honestly too much work, and I just close the browser and move on to something else. Seems a bad user experience, and I doubt it's user-specific, so imagine others have it happening, too.
