Media streaming app Plex has just added a traditional grid-style guide as an alternate way for users who are watching live, over-the-air TV to browse programming, as reported by TechCrunch. Most people use Plex to watch downloaded movies and TV shows, but the service also lets monthly Plex Pass subscribers watch live TV content and record it to a personal DVR. The main benefit with doing this through Plex is that you’re able to watch live and DVR content from any of your devices wherever you are. You’ll need an antenna / tuner to access live TV programming.

Previously, the only way to browse this section of Plex was through lists of recommendations or Netflix-style rows like “on now” and “starting soon.” Plex says that the feature is live now on the web version of its service and is coming to other platforms in the future, although no timeline has been given.

Many other streaming TV services also offer a traditional grid guide, including Sling TV, Hulu, and YouTube TV, indicating that people still associate live TV with this simple, straightforward interface, they and expect it from any service that aims to replace cable.

In the past few months, Plex has been expanding the types of media it supports. It announced a VR app in January that allowed users to watch movies and TV shows on their own or together with friends in VR, and it also added podcasts last month.
