Star Wars: Episode IX will hit theaters a bit over a year from now, and that’ll likely be the last film in the franchise for a while. But while we won’t be getting a film a year, TV will be the new big home for Star Wars: a live-action TV show and a revival of The Clone Wars for Disney’s upcoming streaming service, and this fall, we’re getting a new animated show called Star Wars Resistance. The show will be set a couple of years before the new sequel era films, The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, and is the third animated show from Dave Filoni, who created The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels.
Star Wars Resistance will follow a young New Republic pilot named Kaz, who is recruited to join the Resistance by Poe Dameron. He’s assigned to the Colossus, a base floating on an ocean planet named Castilon. He joins a racing team on the base, but his real job is to look for a First Order sympathizer, and report back to the Resistance.
Star Wars Resistance premieres on the Disney Channel on October 7th at 10PM. Follow along for all of the updates, trailers, and commentary.

Disney just released a trailer for the second and final season of its animated series Star Wars Resistance. We knew a second season was coming, but today’s big reveal is that the second season will be the show’s last, hinting that it has some big things in store — like the appearance of Kylo Ren, the volatile leader of the imperialist First Order from The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi.Read Article >
Star Wars Resistance follows a young Resistance pilot named Kazuda Xiono and the crew of the Colossus, a refueling station once controlled by the First Order. Today’s trailer shows the crew of the Colossus fleeing from the First Order as Tam Ryvora, who defected from the Colossus to join the First Order at the end of the first season, begins her career as a TIE Fighter pilot. Disney says the second season takes place during the events of The Last Jedi and will lead up to the events of December’s Rise of Skywalker.

Launched last October, Star Wars Resistance is the third animated Star Wars TV show from Dave Filoni, who created The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. Resistance is set in the post-Return of the Jedi era of the franchise, and it follows a young New Republic pilot named Kazuda “Kaz” Xiono. Poe Dameron (voiced by Oscar Isaac, who plays him in the live-action films) taps Kaz to spy on the First Order on a floating base called Colossus. The show has begun to set up the world we saw in The Force Awakens, with characters like Poe, General Leia, BB-8, and Captain Phasma making appearances.

Disney has released a second featurette introducing some of the characters in its upcoming animated show, Star Wars Resistance: the Aces, a team of pilots who protect the base. The show will follow the inhabitants of Colossus, a massive floating base located on an ocean planet. Back in August, we got a featurette that introduced Team Fireball, a group of racing pilots, including Kaz, (voiced by Christopher Sean), who’s recruited into the Resistance as a spy.Read Article >
This new featurette shows off another group of pilots and a bit more of the high-stakes racing that will take place in the show. First up, there’s Torra Doza (Myrna Velasco), a young, bubbly and gifted pilot, who’s friends with Kaz. There’s also the cocky Hype Fazon (Donald Faison), cranky and ex-Imperial pilot Griff Halloran (Stephen Stanton), the cold Frey Fenris (Mary Elizabeth McGlynn), and the daring Bo Keevil (whose voice actor wasn’t revealed, weirdly).

With over a year to go before Star Wars: Episode IX hits theaters, Disney and Lucasfilm are releasing a new animated show to hold fans over. The first trailer for Star Wars Resistance has already launched, but Lucasfilm has also released a new featurette that introduces the series’s primary characters.Read Article >
The show is Star Wars’ third animated series from supervising director Dave Filoni, after The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels. In the featurette, he explains that the show’s main characters, Team Fireball, aren’t caught up in the larger conflict between the Resistance and the First Order. Instead, they’re focused on the challenge of earning a living by racing speeders and starfighters from a base called Colossus.

Disney’s next animated Star Wars show just got its first trailer, and it’s looking like a light-hearted adventure about becoming a resistance pilot. As originally announced earlier this year, Resistance is being helmed by Clone Wars and Rebels veteran Dave Filoni and stars Kazuda Xiono, a emotive newbie who seems a little over his head.Read Article >
The show’s one-hour premiere — which will air on Disney Channel, DisneyNOW, and Disney Channel VOD, with subsequent airings on Disney XD, on October 7th — kicks off at the start of Xiono’s mission to spy on the First Order on a planet full of new aliens. Xiono — who bears an uncanny resemblance to Bolin from The Legend of Korra — happens to live with a friend of Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac voices), so you should expect to see some familiar faces mixed in with totally new characters. The resourceful BB-8, for example, seems to be Xiono’s companion throughout his adventures, which are set before the events of The Force Awakens.

Disney announced that it has begun production on a new animated Star Wars show, which will debut later this fall in the US on the Disney Channel. Star Wars Resistance will be set just before the events of The Force Awakens, and will follow a pilot named Kazuda Xiono, who is recruited into the Resistance movement.Read Article >
The show is created by Dave Filoni, who was also behind Lucasfilm’s other two animated shows, The Clone Wars and Rebels. He notes that Resistance was inspired by “my interest in World War II aircraft and fighter pilots,” and says that the look of the show will be inspired by anime.
