Films that use Imax Enhanced, a technology that allows for content to be displayed as digitally remastered 4K HDR with DTS audio, will be available to download and stream exclusively through FandangoNow later this year.

FandangoNow, a digital retailer that allows users to stream or download films, will carry Imax Enhanced films exclusively through 2019, according to a press release. Films like Venom and Alpha will be among the first to receive the Imax Enhanced treatment, according to Variety, alongside more than 100 documentary titles. Imax Enhanced editions of films are expected to be available for purchase through FandangoNow later this year for Sony Bravia TVs at first, Variety reports.

Although Imax Enhanced is exclusive to FandangoNow users, it’s not the only high dynamic range (HDR) technology, which provides a sharper image through wider contrast levels and more elaborate colors, available to consumers. Films equipped with Dolby Vision, one of the more popular HDR technologies, are available through digital retailers and streaming services like iTunes, Netflix, Amazon, and Vudu. Dolby Vision is not available for FandangoNow members.

Sony Electronics, Sony Pictures, Paramount Pictures, and Sound United have all signed on to support Imax Enhanced films. This means films like Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse should be available with Imax Enhanced settings when it launches on FandangoNow later in the year. Other companies, like Warner Bros., Universal Pictures, Disney and its subsidiaries, haven’t signed on.
