It’s been nearly four months since Battlefield V was launched and the game’s planned battle royale mode, Firestorm, now has a firm launch date. Starting on March 25th, according to Electronic Arts and DICE, the Swedish developers behind the Battlefield game series, Firestorm will launch for Battlefield V in the form of an update, downloaded via the Origin app or from Xbox Live / PlayStation Network.

Firestorm will be the first time a battle royale game mode has been added to the first-person shooter series that places an emphasis on destructible environments and large-scale warfare. In the cinematic trailer available below, players will drop as a team into an open-world map without any gear. Upon landing, your first objective will be to acquire weapons and supplies, immediately followed by combating anyone who challenges or lands near you.

BFV’s new multiplayer mode appears to stay true to the battle royale concept, with a variety of weapon classes at different levels of rarity, limited ammo / health, as well as vehicles, including even what appears to be a WW2-era take on some sort of helicopter or VTOL (vertical take-off and landing) aircraft.

Over the coming weeks and months, we’ll see whether the Battlefield player base takes a liking to the Firestorm mode, which was built by Criterion Games, makers of the Burnout series. Personally, I know what I’ll be doing once the Firestorm update hits on March 25th.
