One upon a time, if you had more than one Twitter account and wanted to switch from one to the other, you had two choices: you could either go through the boring exercise of logging out of one and logging into the other, or you could use a Twitter client like TweetDeck or Hootsuite. TweetDeck is still around (as is Hootsuite, although it no longer has a free version), but you can now use Twitter’s native app on the web or a mobile device to easily switch from one account to another, for up to five different accounts.

Below, we’ll explain how to set up your web or mobile app to handle more than one account, and how to move from one to the other.

On the web

  • In the Twitter app, click on the three dots at the bottom of the left-hand menu.
  • Click on the plus sign or the three dots at the top right of the pop-up window.
  • Select “Add an existing account” on the pop-up window.
  • Fill in your ID and password for the other account, and click on “Log in.” If you use any kind of authorization app, you’ll need to complete that as well.

You’re set! Now, if you want to switch from one Twitter identity to the other, simply click on the three dots on the left-hand menu, and then select the identity you want to use.

On an iPhone

  • Open your Twitter app and either swipe right or tap on your account icon in the upper left corner.
  • A side menu will open. Tap on the three dots to the right of your icon.
  • A menu will open at the bottom of the screen. Tap on “Add an existing account.” (You can also start a new account here, if you wish.)
  • Enter your account username (or phone number or email) and the password. Tap on “Log in.” Use your authentication app if you need to.

On an Android phone

  • Open your Twitter app and either swipe right or tap on your account icon in the upper left corner.
  • A side menu will open. Tap on the small down-facing arrow next to your name.
  • Tap on “Add an existing account.” (You can also start a new account here, if you wish.)
